Group Work focusing on Compound Words, Pre-teaching Activities and Video

Group Work focusing on Compound Words
Below is an example of a completed group project consisting of six students.
Each student decorated their own  gingerbread person and made their chosen compound word.  Each group was given materials: gingerbread foam person, foam letters, circles, other shapes and eyeballs.

First Day - Prior to beginning the group projects as a class class we brainstormed a list of holiday compound words.
Second Day
We created our class gingerbread person.
Third Day
Each student made their own gingerbread person to add to their group project.
Fourth Day
Each student in the group referred to the brainstorming list and decided on the compound word they would make with their foam letters.  The group page below was provided to each group.   Each student was  asked to choose the word they would make.

Completed Student Example
Students in each group chose the compound word they would make
There were six children in this group.  Student 1 chose gingerbread, student 2 chose snowman,  student 3 chose gumdrop, student 4 chose treetop, student 5 chose snowflake and student 6 chose season.
Each student then completed the page below describing their compound word.

Completed student example
Next, each student wrote their adjective words (clue) on a piece of paper, folded it and placed it in the reindeer (compound word)  bag.  Students took turns grabbing a clue, reading the adjectives listed and then having students guess which compound word they described.
