Compound Word Introduction using Job Titles: bell + hop = bellhop

When two smaller words join together they make one compound word.  The compound word is a new word with a new meaning. Lets begin.
Job title (compound word) bellhop
bell (noun) + hop (verb) = bellhop 
A bellhop is a person who works in a hotel and helps guests with their luggage.
Job title (compound word) dogcatcher
dog (noun) + catcher (noun) = dogcatcher

A dogcatcher is a person who finds and helps lost dogs
Job title (compound word) firefighter
fire (noun) + fighter (noun) = firefighter
A firefighter is a person who fights fires

Job title (compound word) cowgirl
cow (noun) + girl (noun) = cowgirl
A cowgirl is a girl that takes care of the cows and horses mostly on horseback
Job title (compound word) salesperson
sales (noun) + person (noun) = salesperson
A salesperson is a person who sells products.  In this example the salesperson sells cars

Job title (compound word) hairdresser
hair (noun) + dresser (noun) = hairdresser
A hairdresser is a person who cuts and styles hair
Job title (compound word) lifeguard
life (noun) + guard (noun) = lifeguard
A lifeguard is a person who saves people in swimming pools and on the beach
Job title (compound word) bookkeeper
book (noun) + keeper (noun) = bookkeeper
A bookkeeper is a person who keeps records for a business
Job title (compound word) handyperson
handy (adjective) + person (noun)
A handyperson is a person who makes repairs and does maintenance
Job title (compound word) highway for highway patrol
high (adjective) + way (noun) = highway
A highway patrol officer patrols the highway making sure it is safe.
Job title (compound word) zookeeper
zoo (noun) + keeper (noun) = zookeeper
A zookeeper is a person who cares for the animals at a zoo.

The Me Project; I am, I need and I love

The Me Project:  I am, I need and I love

Print a fill in Template for each student


Day 1 - As a class brainstorm a list of  Me nouns

Have students choose five to eight  nouns to write under their Me category

Day 2 - As a class have students brainstorm a list of  adjectives

Have students choose five to eight adjectives to write under their I am category

Day 3 - As a class have students brainstorm a list of needs
Have students write the needs under their  I need category.


Day 4 - As a class have students brainstorm things they love

Have students choose five to eight things they love under their I love category
Day 5
Have students draw their face, fold the paper in half along the dotted line.  Once folded cut around the face. Do not cut where the front and back of the paper connect. Place a craft stick in the inside and tape closed.

Interactive teaching: 12 months, 4 seasons, 25 student birthdays and many open ended interactive activities

With my 48 inch round glass table top came this large round piece of styrofoam.  I decided I could use it for interactive teaching.  What I created was a calendar of 12 months, 4 seasons, 25 student birthdays and many open ended interactive activities.
Referencing our calendar we completed the following graph and answered the questions on the student practice page.  Fill in forms for your class use are below.
