Making Words within Words: treat, candy, pumpkin......

  This is a great making words activity.  This can be done as a whole class activity or individually.  This post has the templates to make words with the letters in the words: treat, candy, witches, vampire, pumpkin, ghost, cats and bats. Below is an example for the first word -  treat.

Teaching Kids at Home to decode two syllable words following the 6 types...



Teaching kids at home is a video for parents on how to teach kids to decode two syllable words following basic patterns of breaking the words into syllables: closed syllables, open syllables, silent e syllables, vowel combinations, vowel r and consonant -le. Kids need to know that every syllable has a vowel sound.

Silent first letters /k/ in kn and /w/ in wr

Silent first letters:  /k/ in kn and /w/ in wr words.
 Since the /k/ is silent in  kn, you only hear the n.
Since the w is silent in wr, you only hear the r

The Me Project; I am, I need and I love

The Me Project:  I am, I need and I love

Completed Template Example


Print a fill in Template for each student


Day 1 - As a class brainstorm a list of  Me nouns

Have students choose five to eight  nouns to write under their Me category

Day 2 - As a class have students brainstorm a list of  adjectives

Have students choose five to eight adjectives to write under their I am category

Day 3 - As a class have students brainstorm a list of needs
Have students write the needs under their  I need category.


Day 4 - As a class have students brainstorm things they love

Have students choose five to eight things they love under their I love category
Day 5
Have students draw their face, fold the paper in half along the dotted line.  Once folded cut around the face. Do not cut where the front and back of the paper connect. Place a craft stick in the inside and tape closed.
