Grateful Project grew out of a building a word activity - gratefulness

Our Grateful Project grew out of building a word activity!
We listed the words that made up the word gratefulness.  We colored all vowels green and all consonants red.  We discussed the number of syllables in each word.   Next, we talked about the meaning of each word.  This lead to the journal writing and the featured block art activity - I am grateful for..........  We painted small wooden blocks red and green and when dried we wrote on each block with a permanent marking pen and/or paint.  Next, we glued the blocks together!

Prior to the block art, I  wrote the beginning frame sentence - I am grateful for.  Next, students brainstormed a list of people and things they were grateful for and wrote about gratefulness in their journals.
