All of the five senses: tasted, looked, felt, sounded and smelled are linking verbs. Unlike other verbs, linking verbs do not express action. Instead, they tell something about the noun. They give adjectives zip.
Adverbs can help in explaining how much.
mildly spicy, very spicy or too spicy
slightly sweet, very sweet or extremely sweet
completely full, partially full or hardly full
barely cold, extra cold or perfectly cold
slightly chewy, somewhat chewy or very chewy
under ripe, just ripe or over ripe
