Blending: Putting together individual sounds to make Words

Blending:  Putting together individual sounds to make spoken words.   In this example, the beginning sounds of cow, apple and tree are blended together to make the word cat (c+a+t =cat).  A Sound Spelling Chart is included in this post as a reference to review the sounds that letters make.

The beginning sound of bird is /b/, the beginning sound of apple is /short a/, the beginning sound of tree is /t/.  Blend the sounds b, short a and t together to make the word bat.
The beginning sound of heart is /h/, the beginning sound of apple is /short a/, the beginning sound of tree is /t/.  Blend the sounds h, short a and t together to make the word hat.
The beginning sound of moon is /m/, the beginning sound of apple is /short a/, the beginning sound of tree is /t/.  Blend the sounds m, short a and t together to make the word mat.
The beginning sound of ring is /r/, the beginning sound of apple is /short a/, the beginning sound of tree is /t/.  Blend the sounds r, short a and t together to make the word rat.
The beginning sound of sun is /s/, the beginning sound of apple is /short a/, the beginning sound of tree is /t/.  Blend the sounds s, short a and t together to make the word sat.
Read together the sentence that includes several words that were blended together.
The beginning sound of cow is /c/, the beginning sound of apple is /short a/, the beginning sound of net is /n/.  Blend the sounds c, short a and n together to make the word can.
The beginning sound of fish is /f/, the beginning sound of apple is /short a/, the beginning sound of net is /n/.  Blend the sounds f, short a and n together to make the word fan.

Together children/teacher chant each letter sound and a picture beginning with that sound/letter. Since vowels can represent two different sounds (a short sound and a long sound} two pictures are shown. Also, the letters c and g can represent two sounds, a soft sound and a hard sound.
